I have to admit, I was bummed out when it was announced that Toto is no more but if this is what I have to look forward to then this writer is one very happy fan.

One of the biggest surprises at Bospop is without a doubt STEVE LUKATHER.
abstractlogix.com
Best known as guitar player and singer for TOTO and tireless session man, Steve Lukather released so far three vocal solo albums. “Ever Changing Times” is certainly another musical gem to be added to the list of top quality releases featuring his classic trademarks: exquisite playing, finely crafted productions and a very diverse range of music styles, encompassing heartfelt ballads, straight-ahead rockers and fusion extravaganza.

In a June 2008 interview, Alun Williams talked with Steve Lukather about his life, his career, his new solo album and, at the top of the list, the end of the band he founded when he was in high school, Toto.

In the week leading up to my receipt of this album, Steve Lukather had announced the demise of Toto, after some 30+ years of operation. So, could an album title be more appropriate?
Ever Changing Times is Luke's fifth solo affair in 10 years. Those years have included his involvement with Toto as well as an extremely impressive 1000+ collaborations. Yes, you heard me right – over one thousand other side projects. Don't believe it? Go to the discography on www.stevelukather.net and start counting!

This will come as a surprise to many, but Steve Lukather’s day gig – playing guitar and singing the occasional lead vocal for ‘80s hitmakers Toto – has continued more or less uninterrupted since the band’s Grammy-winning heyday. They may not have had an American hit since 1988, but they’ve released five albums of original material since the early ‘90s, and have toured the world many times over. Oh, and Lukather? He’s put out a handful of solo albums, including a Christmas record. In other words, don’t call Ever Changing Times a comeback – he’s been here for years.

STEVE Lukather may be better known as Toto’s lead guitarist, but he’s also a highly sought after sessionist and a good solo artiste in his own right. This is his fifth solo studio album, and it shows off a mellower side that is reminiscent of some of Toto’s early work.

Here's a brand new May 2008 interview with the great Steve Lukather. This chat revolves around Steve's brand new solo record "Ever Changing Times" which is out now in most of the world and June 3rd in the U.S. In this interview I go in depth with Steve about the writing and recording of the record. He even filled me in on the cast of amazing players who lent their time - including guests like Bill Champlin and Joseph Williams. Steve's son Trevor was also a big part of the record - we talk about that as well.

Fifty years ago, a psychic walked up to Steve Lukather’s pregnant mother and said, “You’re going to have a son and when he’s seven years old, he’s going to discover music and he’s going to become very important in that field.” At seven years old, Steve played the guitar. Fifty years later, he’s a music legend in his own right. Text by Jillian Q. Gatcheco. With interviews by Connie M. Tungul and additional text courtesy of GMA Records.

When it comes to popular music, the ‘80s is a decade that is often best forgotten altogether. Synthesizers, old school rap, hair metal, Cyndi Lauper; I mean come on the list just goes on and on. But when looking back, one of the ‘80s rock bands that I enjoyed the most was definitely Toto. So obviously, when I find out that Toto’s legendary guitarist Steve Lukather has released new solo material, my bar is set pretty high.

For some time now Steve Lukather fans have been aware that he was putting together a new solo album, his first in nine or ten years. It is a major achievement to see this album finally become reality when one thinks of the workload that Steve has been putting in these last twelve months. Not only has he been touring the world and releasing a new live album with Toto, doing lots of interviews and articles for guitar publications but he has also become a very proud father. He must be one of the busiest men in the music world.

What it feels like to participate in over 800 number one albums as a producer, composer, and guitarist and singer is a feeling that many people only dream off in their "I want to be a millionaire rockstar" dreams. For Steve Lukather that is a reality that came with a price. In 1976, in the age of 19, Steve was brought in a band called TOTO by David Paich and Jeff Porcaro and since then he has worked as a session guitarist and producer in many projects and albums.

If there’s one musician that needs no further introduction it's gotta be mister Steve Lukather, main man of the band Toto & session musician on probably hundreds of records.
Owen Edwards, alloutguitar.com
Steve Lukather is one of the most recorded guitarists in history, with session credits spanning over 30 years and some of the biggest selling artists of all time. In addition Steve has been front man on guitar and vocals for multi million selling, Grammy award winning melodic rock supergroup, Toto.

I thought Falling In Between (Toto) was a masterpiece and this also comes close, but for different reasons. It will have different appeal to that of the Toto record and it certainly won't be for everyone, but to these ears, it is the most straight ahead melodic rock record that Luke has delivered since the debut.

"Steve Lukather strikes again!" This might be the title of a new Lukather's Book… but for writer Steve we'll have to wait still a little time. After ten years since his last solo work "Luke", Steve comes back with a new master piece, deciding to make it his own magical way.
