Interview with Trevor Lukather
Hey Trev, thanks for popping in. Could you share some memories about working together with your dad for the ECT album, especially about the two tunes you guys wrote together, from your point of view?
When my pop made the decision of making a new solo record... a songwriting record instead of an instumental... he told me that he would love it if we wrote some tunes together... now that was a huge honor for me... so i quickly agreed and started writing...
i knew that i had to come up with a pretty insane riff to impress the ol man... so i sat down and within a couple of minutes i came up with the "tell me what you want from me" chorus riff... my pop walked in and loved it... so he wrote the verse/intro part and we wrote the bridge together... which is kind of pink floyd... and we thought it was a cool idea to start so mellow and hit em with a huge riff out of nowhere... so thats how that one came about...
then after that... he wanted to write one more... so we sat in the office room of his crib... with two guitars and starting jamming... and quickly "new world" came about... randy goodrum was in town at the time so we went to his hotel room and finished the tune... it was great working with randy... such a cool cat...
quickly after writing the tunes it was tracking time... now tracking with lee sklar, abe jr., my pop and jeff babko was just such a groove and honor... and i represented well... hahaha THANK GOD!
tracking the tune was smooth, quick and FUN!!! when your working with such amazing people it tends to go by too fast hahaha... but the tunes came out great... and the feedback already is awesome! and means alot to my pop... i'm happy people are digging the tunes that we wrote together and there will be more in the future...
i'm in the studio recording my record as we speak which im stoked about and my pop has played some piano on it... and david paich is gonna play some keys on these next couple of trax... its just an exciting time! luv to all! TrEv
Thanks alot bro and love to ya and the family.
